Make Your Own Pickle Sickle

Ok, so some of you might cringe at the thought of a Pickle Sickle but some kids just loves these and you can make a sickle out of just about anything. If you are not familiar with a pickle sickle, allow me to explain.

It is a popsicle made out of pickle juice. For those kids who love pickles this is a fun snack and treat. There are many ways you can do this. The way I grew up making these is I took a plastic cup and I filled it with pickle juice. Then I put a popsicle stick or a spoon in the middle of the cup and held it there by tape. Now they have fancy little popsicle makers for around $4.

Remember you can make any juice into a popsicle. Try lemonade, tea, soda, chocolate milk, apple juice, etc.

These are also fun as ice cubes. Just pour the kids favorite drink into an ice tray for a new treat in a drink. Eat them plain or put a fruit punch ice cube in a glass of water for a new treat! There are ice trays with all kinds of fun shapes.

Paradise Parfaits – A Treat for the Warm Weather

A yummy treat for the warm weather.

1 (8 oz.) can of crushed pineapple
1 1/2 cups of cold milk
1 (4 serving) package of vanilla instant pudding mix
1 banana, chopped
1 cup of sliced frozen strawberries
1/4 cup of flaked coconut

Add granola or vanilla wafers for a little crunch

Pour the pineapple, milk and pudding mix in a bowl. Beat with a wire whisk for 1-2 minutes. Stir in the banana.

Spoon half the mixture into six parvati glasses. Cover with a layer of thawed strawberries. Add coconut. Top with remaining mixture. Put in the refrigerator until you are ready to enjoy!

Spice Up Your Mac and Cheese!

So we are probably all used to eating Mac and Cheese on a regular bases. Sometimes the kids want Mac and Cheese and you really don’t feel like making an entirely separate meal for yourself. Here are a few ways to spice up Mac and Cheese.

For the kids:

1. Add in bite size pieces of hot dogs.

2. Crush up ranch Doritoes and mix them in.

For yourself:

1. If you are feeling a mexican dish add in hamburger and taco seasoning.

2. Add ranch and garlic salt. I haven’t tried this one but I have heard it is good.

3. Add tomato sauce, hamburger and chili powder for a spicy taste.

4. Want a more southern meal? Try adding barbecue sauce and little wieners.

5. For another Mexican dish add salsa and sour cream. This can also be used as a great dip for tortilla chips.

6. If you need some meat, try adding tuna or shredded chicken.

7. Add mixed veggies!

8. Add extra cheese, different cheeses even, and mix in ham and potatoes and maybe even some mushrooms for a hearty meal.

Hopefully this gets you started on some ideas. You don’t have to eat the same boring Mac and Cheese anymore!! Even if the kids just want plain Mac and Cheese, you can make yours healthier and heartier with just a few add-ins. Tell me your favorite add-ins and let me know if you come up with some new ideas!
